Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: December 4, 2010)

Rihanna scored her 9th #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Only Girl" just two weeks after earning her 8th #1 with "What's My Name". This is quite a unique case as Rihanna's second single reached the #1 spot first before the lead single of her new album. "What's My Name" benefited from strong first week sales that catapulted it on top while "Only Girl" airplay lead was the main reason it towered over its competitors to reach the top. This is Rihanna's 4th #1 for 2010 (Rude Boy & Love The Way You Lie were the first two) and she's the first artist to have 4 #1 hits in a calendar year since Usher in 2004 when he scored back to back to back #1 hits with "Yeah!", "Burn", "Confessions Part II" and her duet with Alicia Keys "My Boo". Coincidentally, Rihanna ties Usher's Hot 100 #1 haul. Elton John and The Bee Gees also had 9 Hot 100 #1 hits. Here are the following artists who have 10+ #1 hits:

20- The Beatles
18- Mariah Carey
17- Elvis Presley
13- Michael Jackson
12- Madonna
12- The Supremes
11- Whitney Houston
10- Janet Jackson
10- Stevie Wonder

At 22, Rihanna could potentially earn more #1 hits. 2010 has been a good year for Rihanna compared to a year ago, she had no #1 hit or even a top 5 with her songs "Russian Roulette" and "Hard" receiving lukewarm reception.

Elsewhere on the top 10, Pink's "Raise Your Glass" jumps to #2, it has a chance to top the Hot 100 next week, if that happens that be Pink's 3rd #1 song after "So What" and the collaboration "Lady Marmalade" with Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Lil Kim. Last week's #1 Far East Movement's "Like A G6" drops to #3, Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" climbs to #4 while Nelly's "Just a Dream" stays at #5. Katy Perry's "Fireworks" is up from #9 to #6 this week, it's currently the #1 song on US iTunes which means it has a great chance to be Katy's Perry 3rd straight #1 from her new album and 4th #1 over all. Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are" and "What's My Name" drops to #7 and #8 while "Bottoms Up" by Trey Songz is a non-mover at #10. Where's #9? Read below :)

Cee Lo Green's "F*ck You (Forget You)" already lost steam and was dropping on the charts the past weeks but thanks to the Glee exposure, the combined sales of the clean and explicit version catapulted the song's sales through the roof paving the way for it to jump to #9 this week. On the other hand, Glee's cover of Green's "Forget You" settles for #11 instead but this is the 3rd highest peaking Glee track after "Don't Stop Believin'"(#4) and last week's top debut "Teenage Dream" (#8) which drops to #36 this week. Only one other Glee track enters the chart this week, the mash up "Singing in The Rain / Umbrella" debuts at #18. Both covers of "Forget You" and "Singing in The Rain / Umbrella" feature lead vocals from actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow had a 2000 song "Crusin" with Huey Lewis, it was a hit here in the Philippines but it did not chart at all on the Hot 100.

Bruno Mars scores his 4th straight Top 20 hit (after "Nothin on You", "Billionaire" and her own "Just The Way You Are") as her second single "Grenade" zooms from #30 to #17, the track is currently in the iTunes Top 10 and with rising airplay to boot, I wouldn't be surprised if this will be another top 5 hit for the guy, his career is currently on fire right now.

"Airplanes" by B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams dropped out on this week's chart after 30 weeks. Also bowing out are Mike Posner's "Please Don't Go" (29 weeks) and Katy Perry's #1 smash "California Gurls" (27 weeks). With all those long running songs saying adieu, the longest chart sitter is now Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It" which spends its 28th week on the chart. The song is a non-mover at #21 this week and I think it still has 4 to 8 weeks left on the chart. Let's wait and see.

How I wish OneRepublic's "Secrets" finally enters the top 20, it peaked at #21 a couple of weeks back, it climbs back to #24 from #26 last week. I'm also hoping for Plain White Ts "Rhythm of Love" (#66) and Mumford & Sons "Little Lion Man" (#68) will break in to the Top 40 eventually. Another song I like Train's "Marry Me" debuts at #95 this week. Florence + The Machine's "Dogs Days Are Over" peaked at #21 thanks to her 2010 VMA Performance, she performed on Saturday Night Live last week and it brought some more chart life to the song as it climbs from #89 to #69 this week. Here's hoping the song will have another leash on its chart life.
