Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: Nov.13, 2010)

As reported yesterday, Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" debuts atop the Billboard Hot 100 this week. This is the second song to debut at #1 this year after Eminem's "Not Afraid". The #1 debut was made possible by the single's commanding lead in digital sales selling 100 thousand more than #2 song Far East Movement's "Like A G6". I've read complaints/reactions why there are songs that sold well like "We R Who We R" but didn't manage to debut at #1, well it's all about timing my friends. Taylor Swift sold ~310k for "Today Was A Fairytale" earlier this year but only managed to debut at #2 because the #1 track of that time was "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha which had a solid lead in airplay and was still selling quite well at that time unlike this time where We R Who We R's closest competitor "Like a G6" does not have a commanding lead in airplay and was trounced on the sales front. This is technically Ke$ha's 3rd #1 but her feature credit on Flo Rida 2009 #1 Hit "Right Round" was taken off when the song became successful but the tables have turned while Ke$ha sits at #1 this week, Flo Rida's "Club Can't Handle" drops from #9 to #12, while the song had a good chart run it still pales in comparison with Flo Rida smash hits "Low" and "Right Round". This week's top 10 is composed of the #1 to #8 songs last week that all fell by a notch this week while P!nk held steady at #10 with "Raise Your Glass" . P!nk blocked ten-year old (not 9 years old as posted yesterday) Willow Smith's single "Whip My Hair" which soared from #78 to #11 week due to high download sales this week (it's #4 on the Hot Digital Songs Chart). "Whip My Hair" is undeniably catchy but it has the novelty factor especially that this is sung by young girl, we'll see how this song will perform on the chart in the long run or it will be just another flash in the pan hit.

Ten tracks from Taylor "I sold 1 million copies in a week in 2010" Swift's new album "Speak Now" debuted on this week's Hot 100. A bit of bad news though as her last digital promo single "Mean" which entered the chart last week at #11 dropped out this week, tying the record of the Jonas Brothers' ironically titled "A Little Bit Longer" for biggest drop off the chart. "A Little Bit Longer" was also a digital promo single that debuted at #11. Back on the good news, with all her 10 tracks debuting this week plus the previous three digital promo singles (Mean, Back to December, Speak Now) and of course lead single "Mine"(#21 this week), all tracks from the million-selling "Speak Now" charted on the Hot 100, a cool achievement I must say. Here are the 11 Taylor Swift songs on this week's Hot 100:

#17 Sparks Fly
#21 Mine
#27 Innocent
#41 The Story Of Us
#54 Dear John
#56 Better Than Revenge
#63 Haunted
#71 Last Kiss
#75 Enchanted
#84 Never Grow Up
#85 Long Live

Glee's special Rocky Horror Show tribute was not as hot as their previous efforts, first the Rocky Horror EP is the first Glee EP/album not to reach the top 5 on the Billboard 200 (it debuted at #6 last week and dropped to #7 this week) and second, one track only charted on this week's Hot 100 which is their rendition of "Time Warp" at #89. I guess the Rocky Horror Picture was too weird or unappealing for the Gleeks.

Katy Perry is aiming for another hit as the third single from her latest album "Firework" jumped from #57 to #29 matching the peak position of "Thinking of You", the third single from Katy Perry's debut album and also her lowest charting single to date but "Firework" will surely outpeak that song as it is currently in the top 5 of the US iTunes. and will likely jump in the top 10 next week. Meanwhile, looks like Rihanna's "Only Girl"s chance to be her 8th #1 has sailed but she has another shot as "What's My Name" (feat Drake), her second single from her upcoming album "Loud" is currently on top of the iTunes chart and the song is actually this week's highest airplay gainer, it sits at #60 this week. So if the single sells close to what "We R Who We R" sold this week, the song will surely take a big leap to #1. Let's wait and see.

After four straight weeks at #15 Neon Trees' "Animal" finally moves up and climbs to #13 this week. Willow is not the only that jumped from the 70s to the top 20 this week as Kanye West's song "Runaway" jumped from #79 to #18 this week. Lastly, Usher's #1 single "OMG" drops out on the chart this week after 30 weeks leaving B.o.B and Hayley Williams' "Airplanes" as the longest chart sitter spending its 29th week on the chart at #39.
