Rihanna Scores 8th Hot 100 #1

Rihanna scores her 8th #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as her new single "What's My Name" (featuring Drake) zooms from #60 to #1 this week as reported by Billboard. This is her #1 this year following "Rude Boy" (5 weeks at #1) and Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie" (6 weeks at #1) while this is rapper Drake's first ever #1 (his previous highest peaking song was "Best I Ever Had" at #2). This huge leap to #1 was made possible by the song's massive first week sales of 235K Meanwhile last week's #1, Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" drops to #5 this week after debuting at #1 a week ago but still sold a healthy 220K which placed her at #2 on this week's Hot Digital Songs Chart. The full Hot 100 and more chart comments tomorrow but for now here is this week's Top 10 on the Hot Digital Songs Chart courtesy of Yahoo! Chart Watch:
  1. What's My Name - Rihanna feat Drake (235K)
  2. We R Who We R - Ke$ha (220K)
  3. Like a G6 - Far East Movement feat The Cataracs and Dev (168K)
  4. Raise Your Glass - Pink (160K)
  5. Only Girl (In The World) - Rihanna (150K)
  6. Firework - Katy Perry (145K)
  7. Just A Dream - Nelly (137K)
  8. Just The Way You Are - Bruno Mars (126K)
  9. Bottoms Up - Trey Songz feat Nicki Minaj (125K)
  10. Whip My Hair - Willow (125K)

On the Billboard 200, after last week's record breaking 1 million first week sales of Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" this week sales plummeted 70% selling 320K this week but still enough to top this week's Billboard 200 and this is actually the usual drop from such a big first sales week. As I type this The Country Music Awards is ongoing so expect a lot of country dominating the chart next week well as if they are not dominating already as this week's top 3 albums are country with Jason Aldean's "My Kinda Party" debuting at #2 and former #1 Sugarland's "Incredible Machine" at #. In fact, this is the 7th straight week where the top debut is a Country Album after Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Darius Rucker, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and now Jason Aldean. If Lil Wayne's "I'm Not A Human Being" did not block Darius Rucker "Charleston" which debuted at #2, if would have been seven straight weeks of Country albums leading the Billboard 200 but still this just shows that in light of the declining album sales the country genre is holding up well. Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas II You" is the first holiday album to enter this year's Billboard 200 entering the chart at #4, as the holiday season is fast approaching we would likely see more Holiday albums (old or new) in the top 10.
