Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: September 10, 2011)

Maroon Five and Christina Aguilera scores their 2nd and 5th #1 hit respectively as Moves Like Jagger ascends #4-#1 this week on the Billboard Hot 100 dethroning Katy Perry's Last Friday Night which drops to #5 this week. The song debuted at #8 in July in the wake of its premiere on the US talent show "The Voice" where Maroon Five frontman Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera are mentors but after a strong start the song dropped as low as #63 but thanks to an increased in airplay plus TV performances of the song (notably America's Got Talent) Moves Like Jagger rebounded on sales which ultimately catapulted this song to #1. Moves Like Jagger is also the first #1 coming from a band since Coldplay's Viva La Vida topped the chart in 2008.

Maroon Five had their first #1 single in 2007 with Makes Me Wonder which then broke the record for the longest jump to #1 when it jumped #64 to #1 (it was broken five times and the current record holder is Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You for its #97-#1 jump in 2009). Their breakout singles This Love and She Will Be Loved both peaked at #5 in 2004.

On the other hand, this is Christina Aguilera's 5th #1 single and her first since 2001's Lady Marmalade which was a collaboratio with Lil Kim, Mya and Pink for the movie "Moulin Rouge". This is also Aguilera's first top 5 hit since Beautiful peaked at #2 in 2002. Her first three #1 hits were all from her debut album: Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants and Come on Over which hit #1 from 1999-2000.

Foster the People's Pumped Up Kicks rises #7 to #3 which is very notable since this an alternative song from a new indie band and rock/alternative songs have struggled to reach the upper portions of the Hot 100. Is this the peak or will it go higher? Let's wait and see.

Adam Levine scored a double victory this week as he also lands a top 10 hit on his own this week as he is featured on the Gym Class Heroes track Stereo Hearts which rises #15-#10. Billboard notes that this is the first time in the Hot 100 history that someone have two songs in the top 10 at the same time as part of a band and a soloist.

Songs that will definitely enter the top 10 next week are Rihanna's Cheers (up #17-#11), Lady GaGa's You and I (up #35-#16) and Adele's Someone Like You (up #34-#19). The last two songs benefited from a live performance of the recent MTV Video Music Awards and notable Adele's song is currently on top of the US iTunes and has a strong shot of jumping all the way to #1 next week. Even if she doesn't the song will likely enter the top 3 which is pretty impressive for a ballad. Ballads haven't perform well on the Hot 100 recently and even red hot Rihanna failed as her solid California King Bed managed a #37 peak only this year (and the song drops out this week after 14 weeks on the chart).

The Band Perry's If I Die Young drops #14 to #15 this but marks its 40th week on the chart. The song's chart is slow but steady and I bet this song has a shot to come near or maybe match the all time longevity record of Jason Mraz's I'm Yours which stayed on the charts for 76 weeks.
