A Thousand Posts

This is my 1000th post in this blog

I really find it amazing how this blog which I created out of curiosity back in 2005 lasted this long! I know this blog morphed from being a diary of some sorts to a more of showcase of my interests (charts, movies, TV) but this space I have in the world wide web is very personal to me. A lot of social networking sites have come and go but this blog remains. I love reading back my old entries especially my college journey :) I rarely post anything personal these days because I don't have much to say really haha and I do like posting charts, movie reviews, TV thoughts and other pop culture stuff that interests me. This blog has become my avenue to do some things I really want to do in my life. In this blog I'm a chart geek, a movie reviewer, TV analyst and pop culture observer. I admit I wanted to monetize this blog somehow but it takes a lot of effort to do so and I love to blog in my own way and time. While I will not decline any chance to earn something from this, I just don't feel like pushing myself too hard to make it happen. I like this blog the way it is :)

THANK YOU for reading my blog all these years. You know who you are ;)

Spotlight: Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay

This year's Cinema One Originals film festival will be held from November 9 to 15, 2011 at Edsa Shangri-la Complex. I hope I will be able to catch some movies most especially this one "Six Degress of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay" features the iconic "extra" of Philippine horror movies Lilia Cuntapay. This lady played white ladies and other supernatural beings numerous that she has become the face of Pinoy horror! I really hope I will be able to catch this one :)

Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: Nov. 5, 2011)

Adele's Someone Like You tops the Billboard Hot 100 for a 5th week matching its #1 run on the UK Singles chart earlier. Adele is also back on top of the Billboard 200 albums chart with her sophomore set "21" which logs a 13th week on top of the chart selling 4 million albums in 35 weeks. Adele's success this year is simply amazing.

Someone Like You faces a tough challenger next week as Rihanna's We Found Love jumps #6-#2 this week. The lead single from the singles upcoming album is currently #1 on US iTunes this making a strong case to be Rihanna's 11th #1. Maroon Five and Christina Aguilera's former chartopper Moves Like Jagger drops #2- #3 while LMFAO's Sexy and I Know it is steady at #4. And after eight consecutive weeks at #3 Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks finally gives up the bronze position and settles for #5 placing this week.

Making a huge leap to the top 10 this week is Drake's new song Make Me Proud (featuring Nicki Minaj) which jumps 88 notches from #97 last week to #9 this week. This week's top debut is Justin Bieber's Mistletoe at #11 which misses the chance to become Bieber's second top 10 hit after last year's Baby which peaked at #5. This track is from the singer's upcoming Christmas album.

Two songs return to the top 20 after debuting inside the top 20 a couple weeks ago. Coldplay's Paradise rises #38 to #15 beating its former peak #16. On the other hand, Kelly Clarkson's Mr. Know It All climbs #24-#19 almost matching its peak #18. Both songs will reach new peaks next week as the songs are climbing on US itunes in the wake of the release of their new albums.

The Band Perry's If I Die Young stays put at #35 on its 48th week on the chart.

Here is this week's Billboard Hot 100 as posted at Pulse Music Board:

It Was A Good, Good Night

Last night I was at the Black Eyed Peas concert at SM Mall of Asia. I had a blast! I scored a ticket for this concert because the company I worked for is a partner and we made some of their TV plugs. Anyway, back to the concert me and my officemates were seated in the gold section which is a little far from the actual stage but still good enough. All I can say is that the Black Eyed Peas are total performers and they really entertained the crowd! And Apl de ap is just an inspiring man. I can feel his sincerity everytime he speaks about how proud he is of his Filipino heritage. I know it's from the heart and not just some bullshit to stroke our egos. I can feel the love for the country and it was really touching.

On the performance side, will.I.am surprised me because admittedly I'm not a fan of his songs outside the Black Eyed Peas but wow he is such a great live performer! Taboo is often on the sidelines but I think among the three he has the best voice. And Fergie, just wow! She commands the stage like no other. And yes she's so hot with such a powerful voice. Towards the end of the show Fergie teared up because after this concert tour, the group will take a break and pursue their solo projects for the meantime. I can feel how united this four people are and how they love each other as evident in their performances where you can see the easy rapport and unparallelled chemistry.

My favorite performances would have to be Shut Up!, Fergie's Big Girls Don't Cry, will.i.am's solo number where he played various songs like Smells Like Teen Spirit, Where is the Love and the finale with I Gotta Feeling. I admit when I first listened to I Gotta Feeling I didn't like it that much and was sort of annoyed of its 14 week run at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 but over time the song grew on me and the performance last night validated my feelings that this song will be a timeless classic! It's such a fun song to sing along to and yes dance! If you know me personally I'm not a party person and I'm mostly reserved but last night I was bopping my head, clapping my hands, fist pumping and even jumped because the energy of last night's concert was so high!

I definitely had the time of my life last night so thank you very much Black Eyed Peas for a wonderful concert! :)

Spotlight: Locked-up Abroad's Prisoners of Love

I was channel surfing last Sunday when an episode of National Geographic's Locked-up Abroad caught my interest. I saw a lady being interviewed who I felt looked (and spoke) like a Filipino... and I was right and the episode titled "Prisoners of Love" was set here in the Philippines. The story was that a British man went to jail here because he had an affair (and impregnated) with a married woman. I wasn't able to catch the first parts of the episode but after doing some online research about the story, the woman apparently was already separated with his husband when she had a relationship with the British man whom she met online. To be quite honest while I feel sorry for the couple with all the awful stuff they went through when the estranged husband had them arrested but it was really hard for me to fully sympathize with them. I'm not saying that they don't deserve to love each other but I wish they settled the complications of their relationship first even before she got pregnant. But I know it really happens and perhaps the estranged husband must've been really that horrible. But one thing that gave me mixed feelings while watching episode was the way the woman also spoke during the interviews. Her statements rubbed me the wrong way. I don't want to be judgmental because I don't know them personally but I just want to express what I felt. There was just something wrong.

I was also disturbed with culture of violence depicted in the docu-drama. The estranged husband probably came from a political family or a drug lord or some local mafia because of his control with the police and his access to guns. The woman also had connections as well as the relative who protected them have an an armory with lots of guns. It was quite disturbing because you know that in some corners in the country this is true, there are strong clans or groups of people who have private armies and other violent stuff.

Speaking of horrible things about the country that was depicted on this episode is corruption. When the woman gave birth there's a law apparently that says that her child is legally the son of her estranged husband since their marriage has not been annulled yet so with that the British man can not bring her child to the UK. But of course money talks and he was able to bribe some people to make things happen. We know this happen A LOT but it still sucks.

Ultimately, it made me sad not really because our country's image has been tarnished by that show (all countries have their issues and negative sides anyway) but because there's a level of frustration to see a of something horrible we knew about our country and it's people.

Here's my personal ranking of the performances of the finalists of Pilipinas Got Talent 3.

1. Synergy
2. El Gamma Penumbra
- Compelling performances. Great way to start (El Gamma) and end the show (Synergy). The show's sucking lighting and direction didn't do Synergy favors but the talent speaks out, it was a breath taking numbers. El Gamma Penumbra's patriotic theme was delightful to watch frame per frame. Best grand finals performances I've seen sa PGT overall (including the first two seasons).

3. Loverkada Kids
The routine was nothing new but their stunts were well executed and you could see the passion from these kids

4. Kiriko
Catchy song and entertaining performance. I could feel the sincerity in their craft. They surprised me since I found them so-so sa semis.

5. Lucky Twins
I didn't like the song choice since it didn't fit their routine but the dancing was so graceful.

6. Muriel
I like her voice quality and the performance was good although I wish she had a chosen song that could have showcase her voice better

7. Twin Divas
Mediocre singing but dancing was great, they're good live performers

8. Maansinhon Trio
I like their voices, soothing and relaxing. It's not a remarkable performance but it's above average.

9. Renagine
She had a rough start although she found her groove towards the end. The voice is just powerful.

10. Khalil
- Yeah his looks is his selling point but he wasn't awful at least. Compared to similar contestant Jem last season which had a disastrous grand finals performance.

11. Sandugo
Poor song choice but they are a solid band overall, it's just that the vocalist pulled them down, he was annoying. They should have chosen piece that highlighted their various instruments and didn't rely too much on the vocalist.

12. Bringas Brothers
Inspiring story? Yes. Likable people? Yes. But I'm sorry their performance tonight was dull, it was just something you could watch at bars and restaurants.

***

My predicted Top 3 vote getters.

1. El Gamma Penumbra

For the past two seasons groups with lots of members made it to the top 3 (Baguio Metamorphosis in Season1 and Freestylers in Season 2). This group has around 20 members plus with acclaimed performance they have a great shot topping this season.

2. Khalil

The shrieks in the Ynares Center speaks at lot. Teens are smitten with him so I can see them voting a lot to take him to the final 3. He was the landslide winner during his semi finals batch so clearly he's got a strong fanbase already

3. Bringas Brothers

Strong online support since their audition due to their inspiring story. They had a lackluster performance but I guess their fanbase is strong.

I personally hope Synergy makes it to the final 3 because they totally deserve it.

***

PGT3 is lackluster overall and rushed (in a way it felt that this season was just placeholder of the weekend timeslots until PBB returns) but they had a solid batch of grand finalists compared to 1st two seasons. The past 2 seasons featured several mediocre acts and this season there are two standouts and a lot of solid performances. The weaker ones didn't have disastrous performances at least.

With that said, I hope PGT 4 will not come anytime soon (maybe 2013?). And hopefully they changed the judges, Ai Ai is OK but her attempt for humor have more misses than hits, Kris talks a lot of nonsense and FMG is showing his age with his "slow" comments. Plus I think they are the ones at fault why there's a lack of variety in the semi-finalists.

Anyway, hopefully either Synergy or El Gamma wins this season :)

Review: Winnie The Pooh

I’m disappointed that Winnie the Pooh is just shown on two theaters (Glorietta and Greenbelt 3) here in the Philippines. Usually Ayala Cinemas exclusive films are those art house types or niche films that has a limited appeal that a wide release would not do it any favor but a children’s movie starring a popular animated brand? It just shows that with the rise of CGI animated fare, the traditional form of animation has gone out of style in terms of box office draw. I hope that even in limited capacity Winnie The Pooh will be seen by a lot of viewers here. The movie is so different with recent animated flicks that graced the wide screen yet it feels familiar and true.

Pooh wakes up one morning and craves for honey but he can’t find any in his house. On his way to find honey he ran into Eeyore who’s sad because his tale is missing. Pooh and his friends Tigger, Piglet, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, Owl and Christopher Robin help him find a replacement to no luck. Later on Christopher Robin disappears and the gang suspects a creature took him away and they must help him escape from it.

Winnie The Pooh stories have always been simple and safe. The conflicts are always often caused by misunderstandings and misinterpretations and this movie is no different. But the gentle & sweet nature of the characters wins you over that even if the stakes in the story are not high you can’t help but fall for its charms.

The animation in the movie is simply lovely. The colors come to life and as a kid remarked to her mom on the theater I watched this “it’s beautiful”. It truly is. There’s no denying that CGI gave the animation industry an edge to take the genre to a more adventurous and exciting direction but hand drawn animation will always have a certain charm because it feels more intimate and soothing. To be fair, CGI also helped this as the movie is structured as a storybook with the characters interacting with the letters, paragraphs and typography but it was done in a way that does not take away the essence of traditional animation.

The voice cast did a good job and most notably Jim Cummings who voices both Pooh and Tigger. It takes a sheer amount of talent to breath life to two vastly different and iconic characters. Craig Ferguson voiced the know-it-all Owl and he really got into the character and not just maximizes his voice as most celebrity voice castings do. The songs in the movie are true to the spirit of the story and are quite catchy as well. I think it’s perfect that they got Zooey Deschanel to sing the theme as her voice suits the gentle and adorable nature of the movie.

Winnie the Pooh is essentially a love letter to a child’s imagination. AA Milne based it from his son, the real Christoper Robin, and the games he play with his stuffed toys. This new movie from the “Pooh” brand did a splendid job of introducing the characters to a new generation yet respects and honors the legacy of Pooh and his friends. One can’t help but feel nostalgic watching this movie as you remember the days when you were a young child playing with your toys and assigning them characters and concocting up stories. In our minds the world our toys live in is vibrant, colorful and the movie perfectly captured that feeling. Winnie the Pooh is ultimately a children’s movie but it’s nice reminder to us adults of how the simple things in life are magical. 9.5 / 10

Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: Oct. 29, 2011)

Adele's Someone Like You logs a 4th week at #1 this week on the Billboard Hot 100. The track has already lost the digital sales lead to a couple of new songs but it's still have a wide lead on airplay so it's still has a shot for a 5th week at #1 next week although it's not a sure bet like the couple of weeks. Maroon Five and Christina Aguilera's Moves Like Jagger stays put at #2 and Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks is at #3 for an 8th consecutive week. This is likely Pumped Up Kicks' last week at the bronze position as the song already descended in both sales and airplay.

Debuting at #10 is Young, Wild & Free, a collaboration between Snoop Dog and Whiz Khalifa and also features the ubiquitous Bruno Mars. This is Bruno Mars' 7th Top 10 song following a trio of #1s (Nothin on You, Just The Way You Are, Grenade) and #4s (Billionaire, The Lazy Song and Lighters).

The Fray's Heartbeat is a new entry at #43. This is the lead single from their upcoming new album due in February 2012. The Fray has 3 top 10 hits on its belt namely How to Save a Life (#3), You Found Me (#7) and Over My Head (#8).

Also debuting this week are new songs from popular female pop stars. Beyonce's Countdown enters at #85, Britney Spears' Criminal bows at #92 and Katy Perry will attempt to have her 6th straight #1 with new single The One That Got Away which starts is chart life at #94.

The Band Perry's 47-week old single If I Die Young descends two rungs from #33 to #35 this week. Dropping out this week is Jason Aldean's Dirt Road Anthem which goes recurrent this week after spending 27 weeks on the chart peaking at #7.

Spotlight: Winnie The Pooh (2011 film)

Winnie The Pooh opens in Philippine theaters today but here's the catch only in Glorietta and Greenbelt 3 cinemas. I guess a traditional animated movie is a hard sell these days and it makes me sad. Even in the U.S the movie just earned 26 million during its box office run and just around 6 million on international markets. The production budget is relatively low so that box office returns are OK enough and they will make the money back in home video but still it just shows how traditional animated movies are not attractive to kids and casual moviegoers anymore. Disney's The Princess and the Frog in 2009 did a good 100+ million in the box office worldwide but it pales in comparison with the huge 400 to 500 million gross CGI animated movies make. While I love CGI animated movies, there's still a certain charm and warmth traditional and handdrawn animated movies bring. I hope this art form will not die. Anyway, the film is just an hour long and I believe this is a good choice for a young child's (3-5 years old) first movie in the theaters. I will watch this because I miss traditional animated films in the wide screen.

Can I just I really like the trailer of Winnie The Pooh, it feels so nostalgic!

Here are the excerpts from Click The City's review of the Winnie The Pooh

Quote:
Winnie the Pooh is all about going back to basics. The animated film is a very different creature now. They’re all tentpole releases, and as such, are generally loud, colorful adventures that seek to emulate the success of blockbuster action films. Winnie the Pooh, on the other hand, is a very small film with a very slight story about a bear looking for some honey. The film simply goes back to the minimalist charm of the A.A. Milne books, and in so doing, creates something rather remarkable.
Quote:
Everything looks spectacular. There’s no denying how great CGI has been for animation, how it’s pushed the industry to new heights. But there’s still something special about handdrawn animation. There’s a real warmth to these drawings, a wonderful softness that gently draws the eye and brings the audience into the animated world.
Quote:
Winnie the Pooh isn’t exactly a game changer. In fact, it’s likely going to be one of the last films of its kind. Moviemaking is a business in the end, and traditional animation just isn’t efficient enough for today’s production environment. That only makes the film’s existence all the more extraordinary

Midweek Musings 17

There are days when you wish things were different.

That your life has taken another route.

That you can take back a previous decision.

But it's not

You just have to deal with it. Coast along. Try not to think about it. Move on.

Just when you thought you were doing a-OK

Something will remind you where you really stand.

It's not horrible if you compare to what other people are facing in their lives

But it still stinks

It's hard but you need to be stron
g

You want to make a big step

But doing that will affect some areas in your life

And people need you

Even if they don't acknowledge it

They need you to make things work

You know it.

You can't leave them behind.

You're happy to do it because you care

Your life basically revolves around them

Not that it's bad

But there's a void

You know it

But you just accept that maybe it's not meant to be

Sometimes you have to make sacrifice

To let things flow

But there's always an elephant in the room

In spite of it all

You know you're still lucky

Because some people never gets this chance

You're still thankful

Poetry, Breakup and Music

Last week I was able to catch The Secret In Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos) during the 10th Spanish Film Festival in Greenbelt 3 and today was the last day of the film festival and luckily I was able to catch three more films. None of the 3 films I saw matched The Secret In Their Eyes in quality but nevertheless it was still an interesting. All 3 films revolved about love, one was about a famous poet and the two women in her life (and it's also love for his craft), the other is about a couple still in love but had to separate and the last one is about a passionate love that is hindered by a dream. Here's my "mini-reviews" if the three films I saw:

Lope - Period piece about a legendary Spanish poet. It was good enough although it's not really remarkable overall.

Every Song is About Me (Todas las canciones hablan de mi) - This movie is about a couple who broke up after six years of being together and how the man is dealing with it, the structure is a mess (random voiceovers, weird editing) and the story was really going nowhere however the final scene was terrific and too bad just when it was finally gaining steam tapos na pala. 5 / 10

Chico & Rita - An animated film about chasing dreams and the consequences of it and at the same time it's also a love letter to Cuban jazz music. The story's predictable but the music is just lovely and the animation is slick. This is not for kids as the topic is too mature plus there is a sex scene here. (the old men who were seated near me were giggling during that part ). 8 / 10

Review: The Secret in their Eyes

I watched The Secret In Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos) during the 10th Spanish Film Festival in Greenbelt 3 and I admit the reason I wanted to see this film is because it won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2009. The film from Argentina was a surprise winner against favorites France’s A Prophet and Germany’s The White Ribbon. After seeing the film, I tweeted that while I liked the movie I was a little underwhelmed because the story was somehow predictable. But then days after seeing it, I still thought about the film from time to time and made me think otherwise. It had a lasting impact and I now understand why this film won the hearts of the Academy.

Benjamin Esposito (Ricardo Darin) is a judicial employee who’s about to retire and is writing a novel inspired from a crime that he investigated several years ago. In 1974, Liliana Cotto (Carla Quevedo) was raped and brutally murdered in her home in Buenos Aires. Esposito took the case and met Liliana’s husband Ricardo Morales (Pablo Rago) to investigate the crime and learn more about Liliana’s life. After browsing Liliana’s old photo albums and Esposito got suspicious on a man who’s eyes never leave Liliana in the photos they are together. He found out that the man is a friend from Liliana’s hometown named Isidoro Gomez (Javier Godino). When Esposito and his colleague Pablo Sandoval (Guillermo Francella) tried to look for Gomez they found out he left the city that made them more suspicious. However, complications arose during the investigation and the case was closed. One year after, Esposito saw Morales again and found out that for a year he was checking out train stations hoping to find the man who might killed his wife This pushes Esposito to convince his boss Irene Menendez-Hastings (Soledad Villamil) to open the case again. As he search for the truth Esposito face hurdles of seeking justice during a tense political time in Argentina.

The way the case unfolds in the film is somehow predictable and the viewers should also simply accept the notion that Esposito is that perceptive that a random browsing of old photographs could lead him to find the potential murderer. It’s quite poetic to use “the way the eyes move” but let’s face it, this is quite an absurd idea to base an investigation for. But the film as a whole is strong enough that the issues I had initially didn't matter in the end.

What sets the film apart from being just a simple crime drama are the complex setting, distinctive characters and the multilayer narrative. The film used the backdrop of a time of political turmoil in Argentina and it’s unsettling how it affected an isolated murder case. I have no idea of Argentina’s political history when I watched this film and to better appreciate the story, it’s good to read up about it because understanding the context will make you fully grasp the film’s message.

The characters are well written and never one-dimensional. They are purely human. Gotta give kudos to the actors who all did excellent portrayals. Every conversation and exchange of looks will call your attention. It also worth nothing the chemistry between Villamil and Darin is electrifying and it helped make the love story of Esposito and Hastings overcome the romantic clichés it was riddled into.

The film never went melodramatic just to showcase strong emotions and chose instead to use the silence, character gestures and facial expressions to its full effect. The film also successfully explored the passion of a human being and how it drives us to do things despite the odds. And the movie has a touch of humor as well and the light moments never felt awkward or forced.

The direction and technical aspects of the film is simply superb. It perfectly captured the tone and mood of the era this film is set on. The camera work is impressive from the beautiful shots of Buenos Aires to the astonishing sequence involving a long take of a chase scene in a soccer stadium.

The Secret in their Eyes has murder mystery at its core and on the surface it might be a story that you could just watch from TV procedurals but the film effectively blended romance, political commentary and character study that it gave the narrative an emotional resonance and powerful prose. It’s definitely a masterpiece. 10 / 10.

Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: October 22, 2011)

Adele's Someone Like You continues its reign atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a 3rd week and with the song's strong sales and high airplay this song will likely top the chart for at least two more weeks. Maroon Five and Christina Aguilera's Moves Like Jagger stays at #2 while Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks manages a 7th straight week at #3. LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem drops to #6 but LMFAO's top 5 streak isn't over as their second single Sexy and I Know It rises to #4.

Lily Allen scores her first her ever Top 40 hit as 5 0'Clock, the T-Pain track where she is featured, zooms #62-#30 this week. Allen's previous highest peaking song was Smile which peaked at #49 in 2007.

The longest chart sitter If I Die Young by The Band Perry is slowly making it's way out of the chart as the track descends to #33 on its 46th week oin the chart. Meanwhile, the highest new entry this week comes from Daughtry with Crawling Back To You entering the chart at #41

So far the third season of Glee is not as hot on the Billboard Hot 100 compared to the past two years where after each episode a track or two would skyrocket on the charts. So fat this season the highest Glee track is their rendition of Coldplay's Fix You which enters the chart this week at #53. Last year, Glee had several tracks debuting inside the top 40 like their covers of Lady Gaga's Telephone, Jay-Z and Alicia Key's Empire State of Mind and Britney Spears' Toxic.

Spotlight: War Horse

This upcoming film by Steven Spielberg has a very lovely trailer, everything about it is perfect. I'm not particularly fond of war movies but this one looks like it will have different approach. I know this is based on a play and usually plays don't really translate well on the big screen but this one looks like it will defy the odd. I'm excited to see this one. It will be shown in the US in December and hopefully this film will get to Philippine shores by January or February next year. Anyway, here's the trailer for "War Horse"

Review: No Other Woman

The moment I saw the trailer for Star Cinema's No Other Woman I know this one will become a hit but I still didn't expect it to be such a big box office phenomenon (sold out screenings! even on weekdays!). I didn't find it an outstanding movie to be honest but I totally get the appeal and why it resonated well with the public.

Ram (Derek Ramsay) is a furniture supplier who got the biggest break of his career by getting the account of a luxury resort. He later on meets the resort owner's daughter Kara (Anne Curtis) and they hit it off at once however Ram reveals to Kara that he's married but Kara does not care at all and they soon have an affair. Ram's wife Charmaine (Cristine Reyes) eventually discovers the affair but she's not going to give up his husband that easily.

A major reason No Other Woman struck a chord with the Filipino moviegoing public is because the subject is relatable. At one point in our lives we cheated, got cheated on, lured someone to cheat or was tempted to cheat. However, the movie didn't really delve into the issue of infidelity which is a shame because this is a particular topic that has a lot of layers into it that the movie could have explored more. If they only got this one right the story could've had a stronger backbone. The movie simply implied that "daddy issues" is the reason why the characters chose to cheat . I don't discount that parent issues could drive a person to become a cheater but the way they handled the "daddy issues" of the characters was such a throwaway that you could cut that part of the story and the movie could still stand on its own. There are deeper, more complex reasons why people who despite truly loving someone still succumbs to the temptation of cheating but you really won't really get that much of an insight about infidelity in this movie. The movie just presented easily digestible reasons why people cheat and how to deal with cheating partners.

But let's face it a lot of moviegoers watched this one to see campy scenes and this movie absolutely delivered on that aspect. The confrontations between Kara and Charmaine are really compelling and both Curtis and Reyes did well on those particular scenes. They nailed the cattiness and the controlled disgust they have for each other's character. Those moments resonated well with the audience because let's admit those moments are something that we have on mind if we are in a similar situation. This was like seeing a fantasy we have [but we don't admit] alive on screen. We could only wish we have those biting lines that we could easily throw to that person stealing our significant others, right? It's cathartic in a way that I kinda wished the movie went all out camp instead and dumped the tired melodrama.

No Other Woman ends on a predictable note which is not a surprise but it's still rather disappointing. The aftermath of the cheating was resolved in a contrived setup where things end well. I guess it's too much to expect something more from a movie like this but I just can't help but feel that No Other Woman could have achieved something more than just being an entertaining escapist movie. 7 / 10
