18th Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations

I shared my predictions earlier and now comes theactual nominations for the 18th Screen Actors Guild Awards which will be awarded on January 29, 2012
.

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

"The Artist"
"Bridesmaids"
"The Descendants"
"The Help"
"Midnight in Paris"

3/5. I missed out on Bridesmaids and Midnight in Paris. I'm surprised Hugo got shut out although it's not really the type of movie (young cast) that gets recognized at SAG but still the ensemble is arguably the best picture award for this group and for the last decade the Oscar winning film at least got an Ensemble nod at the SAG. So I guess the Oscar race will now be between The Artist and The Descendants.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Demián Bichir, "A Better Life"
George Clooney, "The Descendants"
Leonardo DiCaprio, "J. Edgar"
Jean Dujardin, "The Artist"
Brad Pitt, "Moneyball"

3/5 again missed out on DiCarpio and surprise nominee Bichir. I'm really surprised Fassbender was snubbed! DiCarpio is back on the game! But woah DiCarpio, Pitt and Clooney? Star studded!

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

Glenn Close, "Albert Nobbs"
Viola Davis, "The Help"
Meryl Streep, "The Iron Lady"
Tilda Swinton, "We Need To Talk About Kevin"
Michelle Williams, "My Week With Marilyn"

5/5 Perfect score for me woot! I think these will be the same names announced for the Oscar nominations

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

Kenneth Brangah, "My Week with Marilyn"
Armie Hammer, "J. Edgar"
Jonah Hill, "Moneyball"
Nick Nolte, "Warrior"
Christopher Plummer, "Beginners"

Just 2/5 I'm surprised Albert Brooks from Drive was snubbed!

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

Bérénice Bejo, "The Artist"
Jassica Chastain "The Help"
Melissa McCarthy, "Bridesmaids"
Janet McTeer, "Albert Nobbs"
Octavia Spencer, "The Help"

3/5 Got The Help girls and Bejo right. I'm so happy Melissa McCarthy got nominated! I have residual for this Gilmore Girls alum

Female Actor - TV Movie or Miniseries

Diane Lane, "Cinema Verite"
Maggie Smith, "Downton Abbey"
Emily Watson, "Appropriate Adult"
Betty White, "The Lost Valentine"
Kate Winslet, "Mildred Pierce"

3/5 missed out on White and Watson. Wow SAG do really love Betty

Male Actor - TV Movie or Miniseries

Laurence Fishburne, "Thurgood"
Paul Giamatti, "Too Big To Fail"
Greg Kinnear, "The Kennedys"
Guy Pearce, "Mildred Pierce"
James Woods, "Too Big to Fail"
2/5 Only got Pearce and Kinner right. Surprised Idris Elba was snubbed

Female Actor - Comedy Series

Julie Bowen, "Modern Family"
Edie Falco, "Nurse Jackie"
Tina Fey, "30 Rock"
Sofia Vergara, "Modern Family"
Betty White, "Hot in Cleveland"

3/5 missed out on Falco and Bowen. I was thinking of including Bowen when I made my prediction earlier but went with McCarthy. Too bad Amy Poehler was snubbed :(

Male Actor - Comedy Series

Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock"
Ty Burrell, "Modern Family"
Steve Carell, "The Office"
Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men"
Eric Stonestreet, "Modern Family"

3/5 for me as Jon Cryer beats Jim Parsons and Eric takes Ed's spot. I'm sad Parsons is snubbed yet again despite winning the Emmy for the past two years. But there's a consolation at least which you'll find out below

Ensemble - Comedy Series

"30 Rock"
"The Big Bang Theory"
"Glee"
"Modern Family"
"The Office"

3/5 missed out on Glee and The Big Bang Theory. So yeah despite Parsons not making the lead actor slate, I'm very happy the show got an ensemble nod. I shouldn't have doubted Glee's staying power (but to my credit I was right that they will not get individual nods this time around). Too bad Parks and Recreation (or even Community although that show has always been a long shot since it's too niche) was snubbed :(

Female Actor - Drama Series

Kathy Bates, "Harry's Law"
Glenn Close, "Damages"
Jessa Lange, "American Horror Story"
Julianna Margulies, "The Good Wife"
Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer"

3/5 Missed out on Glenn Close and Kyra Sedgwick. I thought Claire Danes was a lock already and ditto Emmy winner Margo Martindale

Male Actor - Drama Series

Patrick James Adams, "Suits"
Steve Buscemi, "Boardwalk Empire"
Kyle Chandler, "Friday Night Lights"
Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad"
Michael C. Hall, "Dexter"

4/5 missed out on Adams for Olyphant and seriously no one saw the Adams nomination coming at all!

Ensemble - Drama Series

"Boardwalk Empire"
"Breaking Bad"
"Dexter"
"Game of Thrones"
"The Good Wife"

4/5 Missed out on Dexter in favor of Justified. I'm really shocked Justified was completely shut out.

Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture

"The Adjustment Bureau"
"Cowboys & Aliens"
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2"
"Transformers: Dark of the Moon"
"X-Men: First Class"

2/5 only got Harry Potter and Transformers right. Glad with X-Men's nomination though. And wow I've seen all of these five movies! :D

Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series

"Dexter"
"Game of Thrones"
"Southland"
"Spartacus: Gods of the Arena"
"True Blood"

2/5 Only got Game of Thrones and True Blood right. I completely forgot about Spartacus
