Philippine Box Office Round Up 3

Here's my 3rd edition of my Philippine Box Office Roundup. You can check my previous roundup here. And as always here are some notes with regards to my box office roundup:
  • The following box office stats are from the ever awesome Box Office Mojo's Philippine Box Office Index. Thus, my box office comparisons and analysis are only limited to what Box Office Mojo has in its records
  • Studios and local distributors sometimes issues press releases about the box office performance of their movies and there are instances that they do not exactly match the data Box Office Mojo have in hand. I'm not sure how wide Box Office Mojo's scope is with our local theaters but for the purposes of a consistent discussion and analysis I will only focus on the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo.
  • I added some stuff like the Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol box office for 2012 since Box Office Mojo does not include that 2011 holdover on their Top Movies 2012 list. Meanwhile the box office numbers for the holdovers from the MMFF last year are not on BOM's list so they're not on here as well.
  • Box Office Mojo does not have the numbers for Ayala Cinemas Exclusive My Week with Marilyn so it's not on the charts below
***

UnOfficially Yours continues to widen the gap as the top box office hit in the Philippines so far this year as the movie already earned $3.3 million / 143 million PHP in its 3rd week of release. This is already in line of previous John Lloyd Cruz box office hits while this is Angel Locsin's biggest box office hit to date.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance surpasses Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows as the #4 movie this year earning $1.5 million / 64 million PHP compared to the Sherlock Holmes' $1.4 million / 61 million PH gross. Ghost Rider's box office performance was aided by a 3D premium boost. If you notice the top 3 foreign movies this year (Underworld Awakening & Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) are all available in 3D and Sherlock Holmes 2 which was not available in 3D format is the highest grossing foreign movie so far this year.

All the top foreign movies are all sequels and so far the highest non-sequel foreign flick is The Vow at #7 with $1.2 million / 54 million PHP which is a very good performance for a non-local romance movie. Last year's highest romantic film Crazy, Stupid, Love only earned $662k /~28 million PHP.

The best performing new release is the found footage horror flick The Devil Inside debuting with $185k / 7.9 million PHP while the two Oscar-nominated films that were also released last week did so-so: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close earned $60K / 2.5 million PHP while War Horse $34K / 1.4 million PHP. War Horse by the way is an SM Cinemas exclusive. Another "Oscar" film My Week with Marilyn was also out last week in 3 screens but Box Office Mojo does not have the movie's numbers. The last new release is the Katherine Heigl romcom One for The Money which did poorly only earning $16K / 700k PHP and so far is the lowest grossing wide-release foreign flick this year.

Check out the Philippine box office charts below for the full list which I originally posted at BoxOffice.com's official forum (previously Box Office Theory):
