PEx Goes to Lifehouse Live in Manila 2012

This the article I wrote for Pinoyexchange which was the reason that I had the opportunity to see my favorite band perform live. I will post a more personal account of the concert later this week. :)

"We mean it when we say this is our favorite country to play in the entire world” said Lifehouse frontman Jason Wade during the successful Lifehouse Live in Manila concert held last May 26 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum

The concert opened with "All In", the band's second single from their current album "Smokes and Mirrors". It was then followed by "Here Tomorrow Come Today" from their current album. Wade then expressed how excited they were to perform again for their Filipino fans as their 2008 concert here was an unforgettable experience for the band. Before Lifehouse proceeded with the next batch of songs, Wade told before the thousand of screaming fans in the coliseum that he is confident that tonight's concert will even top their previous one.

The band then proceeded to play a mix of their old hits ("Spin", "You and Me", "Whatever It Takes") and album cuts from Smokes and Mirrors ("Nerve Damage", "Wrecking Ball"). During the Nerve Damage performance Jason Wade went down from the stage and to interact with the crowd

Afterwhich, Jason Wade came on stage alone with a guitar and performed an acoustic medley of fan favorites "Storm", "Everything", "Blind", "Six Cycle Carousel" and "From Where You Are" which definitely made the audience feel more excited and overwhelmed hearing their beloved songs played one after another. Wade was then joined by his bandmates to perform "Wash", "Take Me Away" and “Falling In".

What ultimately brought the house down was when Lifehouse performed their breakthrough song and phenomenal hit "Hanging By a Moment" which was then followed by another fan favorite 'First Time". Lifehouse ended the set with spine-tingling rendition of "Broken". But the audience was asking for more and after a few minutes the band returned on stage with Bryce Soderbergh holding a camera phone capturing the overpowering crowd response and the band then expressed how overwhelmed they are with the audience and expressed their gratitude once again to their Filipino fans. The band then carried on with their encore performance and sang "Halfway Gone". They ended the concert with a reprise of "Everything" and this time around, the song was performed in full which undoubtedly got the biggest response of the night. In their previous concert the song was not part of their setlist which disappointed a lot since the song is well-loved by their local fans here. Ending the concert with 'Everything" showed how Lifehouse listens and appreciates their fans and the love was definitely felt in Araneta. A standing ovation and loud applause was given to the band after their concert and they ended the concert with a promise of "See you soon".

Lifehouse Live in Manila was Dayly Entertainment and That’s Ntertainment Productions.with Pinoyexchange as one its partnetrs.

Lifehouse to Rock Manila Once Again!

I attended the Lifehouse press conference last Thursday (May 24) for Pinoyexchange! I'm such a big fan of this band that I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to see them up close! I'm going to watch their concert tonight at Araneta Coliseum (thanks to PEx!) and it will be my first to see a concert there in Araneta haha. Anyway, let me share my writeup of the presscon I did for Pinoyexchange.

American rock band Lifehouse returns to the Philippines and Team PEx was there to meet the band during their conference held at Mariott Hotel, Manila on May 24.

Lifehouse is composed of Jason Wade (vocals, guitar), Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. (drums), Bryce Soderberg (bass) and Ben Carey (guitar). The band first visited the Philippines in July 2008 during the Philippine leg of the Who We Are Asian Tour. And after 4 years, the band is set to the stage on fire again for the Lifehouse Live in Manila concert on May 26 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Jason Wade said that he is delighted to go back to the Philippines and serenade their Filipino fans one more time. The Lifehouse frontman said that the Filipino crowd during their 2008 concert was exceptional and they have never expected that they have an ardent following on this side of the world. Wade pointed out that the fact the audience knew all the songs by heart made their 2008 concert an amazing experience. He promises that the band will deliver a great show on Saturday night and hopes that the energy of the 2008 crowd will be the same

The band was also asked about their opinion about how they feel about how their songs are often used on various TV shows, Wade said that they are pleased on how their songs reaches new audiences through the exposure it receives through TV. He also praised American Idol season 11 finalist Colton Dixon's rendition of "Everything" during the competition.

Lifehouse also shared their songwriting process in which their various experiences in life served as an inspiration for their compositions. Wade hints that their upcoming 6th studio album coming out later this year will even show the band's growth as an artist that their supporters would surely love. The band also encourages aspiring artists to continue their dream especially in the digital era in which anyone can showcase their talents via these accessible platforms.

Lifehouse rose to prominence in 2001 via their smash hit "Hanging by a Moment" which topped the 2001 year end countdown of Billboard magazine. They released five studio albums "No Name Face” (2000), “Stanley Climbfall” (2003), “Lifehouse” (2005), “Who We Are” (2007) and “Smoke and Mirrors” (2010) which spawned hits 'Six Cycle Carousel", "Spin", "You and Me, "Blind", "Whatever it Takes", "Broken", "Halfway Gone" and "All In".

Lifehouse Live in Manila is happening on May 26, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Tickets are available at all Ticketnet outlets or call 911-5555 for more information. Ticket prices: Patron VIP 5,500, Patron 4,500, Lower Box VIP 4,000, Lower Box 3,500, Upper A 2,500, Upper B 1,500 and General Admissions 800. Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: June 2, 2012)

Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye feat Kimbra logs its sixth straight week atop the Billboard Hot 100 matching fun.'s We Are Young with longest running #1 for 2012 so far. Gotye's track will face competition next week with former Canadion Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen as her teenybopper but insanely catchy Call Me Maybe ascends #3-#2 this week and is currently the #1 song on digital sales dethroning Somebody that I Used to Know. Can Carly make it? Let's wait and see.

The top 10 once again is fairly static but there's a bunch of new songs that might enter the top 10 next week like Rihanna's Where Have You Been which rises #18-#13, Usher's Scream which climbs #25-#15 and Pitbull's Back in Time which ascends #21-#16 this week.

LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem manages to increase #44-#38 on its 61st week on the chart, the longest staying song on the chart. The song recently won Song of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards held last week.

A Woman's Word Week #9 Plug

A Woman's Word airs at TeleNovela Channel (Sky Cable Channel 60) airs 2 am, 8 am, 2 pm and 8 pm and catch the weekend marathon every Sunday (6-11 am and 6-11pm)

Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: May 26, 2012)

Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye feat Kimbra tops the Billboard Hot 100 for the 5th consecutive week. And the song still has no signs of slowing down year as it still dominates sales and online streaming plus it will soon takeover the airplay chart as well. I could see the song dominating for at least 3 more weeks.

After it debuted at #3 and stayed there for 2 more weeks, Maroon Five's Payphone climbs to #2 and the band will likely get their Hot 100 #1 hit in a few weeks. Meanwhile, the rest of the top 10 is fairly static except for Train's Drive By finally entering the top 10 this week, up a notch from #11 this week. This is the band's 3rd Top 10 hit after Drops of Jupiter (#5) in 2001 and Hey, Soul Sister (#3) in 2010.

Adele's Rumour Has It is stuck at #16 for the 4th straight week and unfortunately the song has likely peaked as it already losing points in airplay and sales. That's a subfar performance after 3 #1 Hits but considering the fact Adele's 21 crossed 9 million sales this week and the song already had various exposures before it was announced as an official single (Glee, topping the triple A chart), the song did decent already. Still I was hoping it make it to the top 10 but well it's just a small "defeat" of Adele's phenomenal era.

Longest staying song Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO holds #44 on its 60th week on the chart. Fellow oldtimer Moves Like Jagger by Maroon Five escapes recurrent status this week as the song also stays put at #49 on its 47th week on the chart.

Here is this week's Billboard Hot 100 as posted at Pulse Music Board

Philippine Box Office Roundup 13

I know I just posted my 12th round up last night but since Box Office Mojo already updated with the latest information might as well post another roundup ;)

s always here are some notes with regards to my box office roundup:

  • The following box office stats are from the ever awesome Box Office Mojo's Philippine Box Office Index. Thus, my box office comparisons and analysis are only limited to what Box Office Mojo has in its records
  • Studios and local distributors sometimes issues press releases about the box office performance of their movies and there are instances that they do not exactly match the data Box Office Mojo have in hand. I'm not sure how wide Box Office Mojo's scope is with our local theaters but for the purposes of a consistent discussion and analysis I will only focus on the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo.
  • I added some stuff like the Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol box office for 2012 since Box Office Mojo does not include that 2011 holdover on their Top Movies 2012 list. Meanwhile the box office numbers for the holdovers from the MMFF last year are not on BOM's list so they're not on here as well.
  • Box Office Mojo does not have the numbers for Ayala Cinemas Exclusive My Week with Marilyn so it's not on the charts below.

***

The powerhouse combo Johnny Depp-Tim Burton was not strong enough this time around as their latest collaboration Dark Shadows was well behind the shadows of the box office phenomenon The Avengers as the movie opened with a good but somehow so-so 26 million pesos. Dark Shadows was definitely hurt by The Avengers which was still #1 the weekend it opened with 53 million pesos on its 3rd week. Dark Shadows might struggle to cross 100 million pesos mark with a soft opening.

Meanwhile, box office superstar The Avengers now grossed an ASTONISHING 572.5 MILLION PESOS!!! The question does it have enough power to cross 600 million pesos? I say YES!

The other new releases that week was the Jonah Hill-Channing Tatum buddy comedy 21 Jump Street which earned a decent 6.5 million pesos and the action flick The Cold Light of Day with 2.1 million pesos. No available number yet for the local movie The Mommy Returns which opened last week as well.

Here are the Philippine Box Office charts (both in dollars and pesos) as I originally posted at the BoxOffice.com forums:

Philippine Box Office Roundup 12

Box Office Mojo info came in late so apologies that the 12 th edition of my Philippine Box Office Roundup is jus posted today. Anywa you can read my previous recap (which was two weeks ago) here. And as always here are some notes with regards to my box office roundup:

  • The following box office stats are from the ever awesome Box Office Mojo's Philippine Box Office Index. Thus, my box office comparisons and analysis are only limited to what Box Office Mojo has in its records
  • Studios and local distributors sometimes issues press releases about the box office performance of their movies and there are instances that they do not exactly match the data Box Office Mojo have in hand. I'm not sure how wide Box Office Mojo's scope is with our local theaters but for the purposes of a consistent discussion and analysis I will only focus on the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo.

Meanwhile the box office numbers for the holdovers from the MMFF last year are not on BOM's list so they're not on here as well.
  • Box Office Mojo does not have the numbers for Ayala Cinemas Exclusive My Week with Marilyn so it's not on the charts below.

:mouthdropped: :mouthdropped: :mouthdropped:

The Avengers continue to pull in JAW DROPPING BOX OFFICE PERFORMANCE! Yes I have to type that in all caps because The Avengers box office run is just insane! In 2 weeks, the movie is already the highest grossing movie ever in the country raking in $11.6 million / 487 million pesos in just two week easily surpassing the previous record holder, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which earned $9.7 million / 420 million pesos last year. TRULY PHENOMENAL!

There were two other releases on that week and they did as best as they could. American Pie: The Reunion (Rated R-18 which no SM cinemas there) pulled a decent 7.8 million pesos while the horror flick Cabin the Woods pulled an OK 2.7 million pesos

Here are the Philippine Box Office charts (both in dollars and pesos) as I originally posted at the BoxOffice.com forums:

Playing Programmer 2012: CBS

It's the time of the year when the US Broadcast network announce renewals and cancellations along with the new series they will pick up for next season. Next week is what they call the UpFronts which is like the equivalent of the trade shows our local networks do here. It's the time where each network showcases their schedule for the upcoming TV season. Like last year, I will play programmer and try to schedule the networks programming next season.

Link
The CW? Done! FOX Done! NBC? Done? ABC? Done!

And so for the finale of my Playing Programmer 2012 blog series (haha!), I will now focus with the very stable CBS, America's most viewed network in primetime. The network renewed around 20 shows and picked up 6 new series for this season. I don't see much changes for the network this season apart from plugging holes for cancelled series. Anyway, here's my schedule for CBS:

Sundays

7 PM - 60 Minutes
8 PM - The Amazing Race
9 PM - Vegas
10 PM - The Good Wife

Sunday a weak night for CBS with only The Amazing Race bringing in solid ratings so I can see them launching their high profile Western drama Vegas starring Dennis Quaid, Michael Chicklis and Carrie Ann Moss at the 9 PM slot. The Good Wife's ratings are poor for CBS but they likely renewed the show because of the prestige it brings, I can see CBS moving The Good Wife one hour later to 10 PM where it will do the least damage in the ratings

Mondays

8 PM - How I Met Your Mother
8: 30 PM - 2 Broke Girls
9 PM - Two and a Half Men
9:30 PM - Mike & Molly
10 PM - Hawaii Five-0

Yes, I didn't change a thing in this schedule, it works well for them and CBS wants stability so I don't see them making drastic changes for whatever works for them.

Tuesdays

8 PM - NCIS
9 PM - NCIS: LA
10 PM - Made in Jersey

The 10 pm slot has been tough for CBS but I think they well try again to have female-led drama show at 10 PM and that would be Made in Jersey

Wednesdays

8 PM - Survivor: Philippines*
9 PM - Criminal Minds
10 PM - CSI

*not to be confused with the local version Survivor Philippines with no ":" in between.

Like Monday a very solid night for CBS. I don't see them changing it as well

Thursdays

8 PM - The Big Bang Theory
8:30 PM - Friend Me
9 PM - Person of Interest
10 PM - Elementary

A lot of people are predicting CBS will make a 2 hour sitcom block while I would advocate that before The Big Bang Theory did excellent the past season on the same timeslot and while it would definitely get highe ratings at 9 PM, I think CBS will stick with the same schedule since they tend to nurture their procedural and Person of Interest did increase its ratings during the latter half of the season which shows potential for growth (NCIS and Criminal Minds had been on the same timeslot since they premiered and they started with modest ratings and grew to become ratings powerhouses so POI could be another long term hit for CBS). They will likely launch a new sitcom here since TBBT is strong and they picked two sitcoms and Friend Me seems more compatible with TBBT. CBS modernized version of Sherlock Holmes Elementary is a buzzed project and will likely get the Thursday 10 PM slot.

Fridays

8 PM Rules of Engagement
8:30 PM - Partners
9 PM - The Mentalist
10 PM - Blue Bloods

CBS used to rule Fridays but their ratings power over that night started to lose their power there so I see them making some changes here and reserve Undercover Boss and CSI: New York for midseason and try something new by having sitcoms at 8-9 PM and The Mentalist moving to 9 PM.
