Philippine Box Office Recap 29

To check out the previous recap click here and as always some reminders and disclaimers:
  • The following box office stats are from the ever awesome Box Office Mojo's Philippine Box Office Index. Thus, my box office comparisons and analysis are only limited to what Box Office Mojo has in its records
  • Studios and local distributors sometimes issues press releases about the box office performance of their movies and there are instances that they do not exactly match the data Box Office Mojo have in hand. I'm not sure how wide Box Office Mojo's scope is with our local theaters but for the purposes of a consistent discussion and analysis I will only focus on the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo.
  • I added some stuff like the Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol box office for 2012 since Box Office Mojo does not include that 2011 holdover on their Top Movies 2012 list. Meanwhile the box office numbers for the holdovers from the MMFF last year are not on BOM's list so they're not on here as well.
  • Box Office Mojo does not have the numbers for Ayala Cinemas Exclusive My Week with Marilyn and local movie Gun Guni so it's not on the charts below.
The Mistress leapfrogs The Dark Knight Rises and The Bourne Legacy to take the bronze medal on the 2012 Philippine Box Office chart. The John Lloyd-Bea starrer already accumulated P231 million ahead of The Dark Knight Rises' P219 million and The Bourne Legacy's P200 million. Is The Mistress lock for the #3 spot until the end of the year? Well not yet as we have Vice Ganda's upcoming comedy This Guy is in Love With You Mare and let's not forget how Vice Ganda's Praybeyt Benjamin dominated the box office last year, finishing as the #2 movie bbehind Transformers 3 and beating the final installment of Harry Potter series. There's also the final installment of the Twilight series so #3 spot is not lock yet for The Mistress but it sure did phenomenal in the local box office.

Among the new releases, the animated flick Hotel Transylvania performed the best with P25 million while the Aga Muhlach-Regine Velasquez reunion movie Of All The Things disappointed with P14.5 million. The excellent adaptation The Perks of Being a Wallflower sadly didn't perform that well with just P3.2 million. The Mel Gibson movie Get the Gringo (titled here as Most Wanted) did fine with P2 million considering it's basically an obscure movie that didn't get that much promotion or even a release date in the US. The Cinemalaya movie Sta. Nina only got a miniscule P332K

Here is the latest Philippine Box Office tally as originally posted at BoxOffice forums
